Nigerian man arrested for having 86 wives

Bello Masaba is being accused of having "a few too many wives" in Nigeria. Now I know what you're thinking, "at least it's not 100", but it seems everybody has a problem with this. You see, Islamic law says you're only allowed to have 4 wives, which is clearly more reasonable.

Now in court, the judge will have to deal with 86 different lawyers, one for each of his wives. I wonder how long the divorces are going to take.

Masama has agreed to divorce 82 of the wives and keep four in compliance with Islamic law. On top of everything, Bello has over 170 children with his 86 wives. Bello himself is 84 years old, which means he's averaging one wife every year since he was born. That's a lot of lovin!

Human rights groups have mobilized to help defend Bello against "un-fair trials" under Islamic law. They say they're ultimate goal is to protect his essential human rights that allow him to marry whoever he wants.
